The starting point of today's hike to the Rifugio Monte Cavone is the Hotel Schönblick in Aica di Fiè. We take path no. 7 and at the fork we proceed along path no. 7A leading across a fir forest. We enjoy the stunning panoramic views of the Sciliar and Castel Presule. Soon the path steepens and we climb the hairpin bends to the rif. Tschafon at 1,373 m a.s.l. This mountain hut is known for its natural products and garden and is therefore highly appreciated by families. In the heart of the Sciliar Catinaccio nature park we admire stunning panoramic views of the Catinaccio, the Vajolet towers and the Latemar massif.

We arrive at our first destination where we eat lunch before tackling the ascent to the peak of Monte Balzo (1,834 m a.s.l.) which we reach after only 20 minutes of walking. The summit is composed of two rock ridges offering marvellous panoramic views of the Valle Isarco, the Fiè allo Sciliar high plateau and the Valle di Tires. We fully enjoy the calm atmosphere at the summit cross before returning to our starting point.

Of course we stop at the Tschafon hut again. After a delicious lunch we return to our starting point along the paths no. 4 and 4B. We pass the Wuhnleger Pond. The Vajolet towers and the peaks of the Catinaccio are reflected in its waters.

Note: this stunning but easy hike delights you with spectacular panoramic views of the Fiè allo Sciliar high plateau. However, you should definitely not underestimate the length of this hike.
