San Vigilio

Hiding in the ravine of the Rio Freddo, San Vigilio is located in central position between Castelrotto and Fiè allo Sciliar

You really have to search for this little village specifically to find it. For although its highest building, the church – built in 1353 and dedicated to S. Vigilius – would rise above the Rio Freddo Valley, the surrounding trees obscure the spire. The scattered settlement, with its numerous farms, has a population of about 100 and covers an area of approx. 4 km².

Besides the church, the village has a few other highlights to offer, such as the Siusi-San Vigilio Golf Club in the east end of the village towards Siusi - which has been named one of the most beautiful 18 hole courses of Northern Italy -, the Castel Rovereto ruin and the organic herb farm Pflegerhof on the road to Sant'Osvaldo, and last but not least the old Malenger Mill that can also be visited. These are little jewels of the village in the municipal area of Castelrotto that seems to be unimposing at first sight.
