Snowshoes were already used by our ancestors who invented them to reach the most distant mountain huts and stables where they fed their livestock. The first snowshoe models were totally different from those used nowadays. However, they already had a large surface area to allow walking on the snow without sinking. Over time, this way of moving turned into a real sport: snowshoe hiking.
The extensive Alpe di Siusi and the surroundings of Tires al Catinaccio are perfect for practising this fantastic sport which is not only in vogue but also very healthy and fun. These light shoes featuring a step-in binding and claws guarantee comfortable hikes on the snow in a stunning natural setting.
In this area you will find several marked snowshoe hiking paths stretching over a total length of 50 km leading to the valle Ciamin and the Catinaccio. The huts open in the winter months invite you to a pleasant lunch break with an impressive view of the Dolomites.
