Skitouring

The Dolomite massifs surrounding the Alpe di Siusi represent a unique background for doing ski tours

Already when scaling the mountain you might live unforgettable moments, meet wild animals such as rabbits or chamois. And once you are skiing down again, breath-taking views and fresh powder snow under your skis reward every effort. In the Alpe di Siusi area, particularly popular with ski touring experts is Mt Sasso Piatto. With an altitude of 2,969 m, it features a mighty yet uniformly steep flank which can perfectly be scaled and is one of the few Dolomite peaks accessible with skis.

The ski tour starts in Saltria, where you might take advantage of the Zallinger ski lift or directly put your ski climbing skins on. Once you have reached the Tirler mountain hut (1,750 m a.s.l.) you continue towards the Zallinger mountain hut (2,054 m) and cross the Giogo di Fassa. Now you will reach the Sasso Piatto mountain hut (2,256 m) with the mighty flank of Mt Sasso Piatto.

Watch out: the flank is fairly steep and requires completely safe snow conditions. It is thus necessary to check weather and snow conditions in advance. Ask one of the experienced local mountain guides for a guided tour on Mt Sasso Piatto.
