We reach the wonderful hut above Umes near Fié allo Sciliar by walking through the snowy forests of the Sciliar-Catinaccio nature park

In winter, the Hofer Alpl hut, a wonderful destination for a hike through the snowy landscape, is usually open from Christmas to the carnival holidays. The starting point of this excursion is the car park near the Moarmüller mill along the road leading from Fiè allo Sciliar to Umes. At the small hamlet we follow path no. 8 to malga Hofer Alpl. After a 1.5 km long walk we arrive at a fork: to the left the sledge run (no. 9) branches off and to the right the direct, but shorter and steeper path to the malga (no. 8A) starts.
If you are walking without having to pull a sledge, we recommend walking along the steeper but shorter path (if well-levelled), otherwise you can take the longer but easier path no. 8. Malga Hofer Alpl at 1,364 m a.s.l. offers typical local dishes, as well as a stunning panoramic view towards west.
