Catinaccio
About King Laurin and his legendary reign
The Catinaccio, a mountain massif at the heart of the South Tyrolean Dolomites, locates in between Val di Tires and Val di Fassa, some 20 km east of Bolzano, South Tyrol’s capital city.
Already old German tribes enjoyed life at its fullest here in the Catinaccio region - and once you have visited and got to know it, you will also know why :-)!
The mild mountain regoin features a stunning panorama and numerous hiking trails and forest roads in summer and winter alike. There is a lot to discover, a lot to admire…
The highest mountain is called Catinaccio d’Antermoia, featuring an altitude of 3,004 m. You might reach it when climbing up the Via Ferrata starting near to Passo Principe - but watch out: this is for experienced hikers only! Other stunning mountain peaks are the Vajolet (2,749 m), the so-called Torri del Vajolet, the Croda di Re Laurino (2,813 m), the Roda di Vael (2,806 m) and the Torri del Masaré (2,611 m).
The main peak of the Catinaccio massif, however, is the Vetta del Catinaccio. It features an altitude of “only” 2.981 metres and locates almost at the centre of the Catinaccio massif.
