San Cipriano

The village of San Cipriano, a picturesque mountain village, is starting point for various tours

San Cipriano, a beautiful little village, is located at 1,071 m a.s.l., about 3 km away from the main place Tires village. Eye-catching is above all the St Cyprian Chapel, name-giving for the village (San Cipriano, in Italian). Consecrated to the Saints Cyprian and Justina from Antioch, it was built in the 13th century in late-Romanesque style. The paintings on the outer facade from the 17th century illustrate the saving of the so-called "Platzlinder" meadow. Tradition has it, however, that the first settlers of the municipality Tires al Catinaccio established themselves in San Cipriano, not in Tires village.

From San Cipriano, a new cabrio cable car brings you directly to the Frommer hut, in the skiing and hiking area of Carezza.

The Catinaccio Group, part of the Natural World Heritage site of the Dolomites, is venue of the famous phenomenon of the enrosadira: at sunrise and sunset the legendary Dolomites shine in a light rose colour. If you would like to watch this amazing natural spectacle, we recommend you a walk to the alpine meadow of Proa above the hamlet of San Cipriano.
