Gruppo del Sassolungo

Mighty mountains surround the Alpe di Siusi pasture

The so-called Gruppo del Sassolungo is a mountain massif in the western Dolomites, separating Val Gardena in the north from Val di Fassa in the south as well as the Sella Group in the east from the Catinaccio in the west.

All the mountain peaks together create a circle, with only one open site facing the nort-west. Have a look at the mountains you might hike or climb up: the Sassolungo, the Spallone del Sassolungo, the Punta delle Cinque Dita, the Sasso Levante, the Torre Innerkofler, the Dente and the Sasso Piatto. The highest peak is the Sassolungo, featuring an altitude of 3,181 m.

With an altitude of 3,126 m, the Grohmann peak is only slightly lower than the Sassolungo mountain. Together with the Punta delle Cinque Dita and the Spallone del Sassolungo it forms one of the most characteristic mountain group of the Dolomites. The so-called Sasso Piatto reaches a height of 2,969 m and is one of the main peaks of the surrounding mountains.
