Völs St. Konstantin Fie San Costantino

San Costantino

The dispersed settlement of San Costantino is located on the meadows opposite Siusi and Laranz.

Extending at about 900 m asl, the locality of San Costantino consists of several farms spread on the meadows between Fiè and Siusi allo Sciliar, but also boasts a small but mighty centre that was established round the church with its church tower topped by an onion-domed roof. Considered to having been constructed at the beginning of the 13th century, it has been completely redesigned by order of Leonhard von Völs in the course of time.

Today San Costantino is inhabited by about 250 people. The forests and meadows with gentle hills stands in contrast to the rough Sciliar mountain on the one hand and the gorges and valleys in the north and west on the other side. This is where the uplands fall away sharply into the Valle Isarco valley and the gorge of the Rio Frötsch river.

San Costantino is ideal for people who would like to experience the area of the Sciliar and Alpe di Siusi: belonging to the municipality of Fiè, it is located only a stone’s throw from the lower terminus of the Alpe di Siusi funicular. Also the golf course the several hiking trails in average altitudes are within easy reach.
