The altitude of Castelrotto ranges from 499 to 2,958 metres above sea level. 5,400 hectares of its overall area - which amounts to 11,781 hectares - are covered by the Alpe di Siusi pasture; this is almost half of Castelrotto.

Castelrotto is the main municipality of the Sciliar region and by the way the hometown of South Tyrol’s folk music band no. 1: the so-called “Kastelruther Spatzen”. Another celebrity that was born in Castelrotto is the legendary troubadour Oswald von Wolkenstein. Still today, the residents of Castelrotto organise on an annual basis the “Oswald von Wolkenstein Ride”, a great horse race following centuries-old traditions.
By the way: Those interested in traditions and cheerful customs shouldn’t miss the annual peasant wedding organised early in the year.

Castelrotto is a popular holiday resort in summer and winter alike. The stunning world of the Dolomites is a great place for hikers and moutaineers. Here you will find both lonely spots and lively village centres.

One of the main sites of interest is the local parish church with its free-standing bell tower. Monte Calvario and a few other churches found all over Castelrotto are evidence of a highly artistic past.

We suggest: Pay a visit to the organic herb garden of the Pflegerhof farm!
